Pride Street Festival and Parade 2014

Great time as always at Stonewall Pride Wilton Manors with Mayor Gary Resnick! So much to celebrate this year, and no better place to do it.
Great time as always at Stonewall Pride Wilton Manors with Mayor Gary Resnick! So much to celebrate this year, and no better place to do it.

"This is a community-wide event that drew a diverse crowd of approximately 30,000 individuals and families each year," states Gary Resnick, Mayor of Wilton Manors. "The parade, street vendors, and live performances really offer something for everyone and we are just so thrilled to be hosting this celebration for the 15th consecutive year."
The festival is held in honor of the Stonewall Riots. Tired of harassment from the New York Police Department, the city's gay community staged a series of violent demonstrations on June 27, 1969. Each year, gay communities across the country hold events to honor the riots.
In addition to the parade and live performances, Stonewall Pride's organizers, Pride South Florida, said there would also be HIV/AIDS education and testing.
"Is there enjoyment? Yes. But there's going to be education and enlightenment," said Corey Boyd, Pride South Florida. "The role of the Stonewall event should be one of bringing to light the fact that members of [the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community] still do not have all our rights."
Lining the entire length of Wilton Drive will be vendor booths, food trucks, drink tents and non-profit organizations. The main stage will be located at Northeast 6th Avenue providing entertainment throughout the day. Two additional stages will also be set-up.

Equality Florida Action PAC Endorses Charlie Crist for Governor!

"Floridians deserve a governor who fights for them including for their right to
marry the person they love and to be safe from discrimination in the workplace."
- Charlie Crist

The Equality Florida Action PAC, the largest organization dedicated to electing
pro-equality candidates in Florida, has endorsed Charlie Crist for Governor
today.

The early endorsement reflects the urgency of electing a Governor who will speed
progress when it comes to equality, not stand in way of fairness.

Florida is at a critical moment in our struggle to end discrimination, and the
next Governor will have a tremendous impact on the everyday lives of lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender people in our state. Charlie Crist has taken a
clear stand for equality and fairness and is delivering a message that will
inspire the growing pro-equality majority in our state to stand on the right
side of history.

A former Republican Governor turned Democratic contender, Crist broke from his
party over its increasing hostility toward gay people, women, the poor, and the
party's voter suppression tactics. He has apologized for past votes that went
against his own conscience, and he has made good on promises to be an unyielding
voice for full equality under the law for the LGBT community.

As Governor, Crist ended his support of Florida's notorious anti-gay adoption
ban and pledged to help dismantle it. When a Miami judge ruled the ban violated
basic rights and harmed children by denying them the security of a forever
family, Crist refused to appeal the decision and worked with the Department of
Children and Families to stop enforcement of the ban that same day, paving the
way for adoptions to take place immediately.

Not only is Charlie Crist a full supporter of LGBT equality, but he is already
running a race strong enough to combat Rick Scott's massive war chest. He is
consistently shown polling even or ahead of Scott and is attracting donors who
are raising the kind of money needed to win.

Charlie Crist's position on the freedom to marry reflects the evolution of
Florida voters. The clear majority now supports full legal recognition of
marriage and that support is growing rapidly regardless of political party, age
or religious identification. With the freedom to marry looming on Florida's
horizon, we must have a pro-equality Governor in the Tallahassee.

The next Governor is likely to appoint four Supreme Court Justices, and we
cannot afford to leave our Supreme Court in the hands of a Governor who refuses
to recognize even the most basic rights for LGBT people. We encourage every
Floridian who values basic human rights to support Charlie Crist for Governor.

Please donate to Charlie Crist's campaign today using the special Equality
Florida Action PAC donation link below so he will know we are standing with him.
