‘SPOTLIGHT’ BEST PIC; LEO WINS 1ST OSCAR



Journalism drama Spotlight scored Best Picture as well as Best Original Screenplay at the 88th Academy Awards  last night, besting favorite The Revenant for the top award. The revenge epic’s star, Leonardo DiCaprio, won Best Actor in his sixth nomination. The movie also landed Alejandro G. Iñárritu his second consecutive win for best director. Actress Brie Larson took home Best Actress for Room ,while Sam Smith’s “Writing on the Wall” from the Bond film Spectre won Best Original Song. Mark Rylance accepted the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Bridge of Spies while Alicia Vikander scored Best Supporting Actress for The Danish Girl. Mad Max: Fury Road was an early winner with six awards for costume design, production design, editing, sound editing, sound mixing and makeup and hairstyling.

A person of interest has been identified in the kidnapping of Taraji Kemp, a 2-month-old girl who was taken during a home invasion in unincorporated Broward County.

Description of Incident:
Broward Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit investigators are asking the public to help in the search for Stephanie Augustin, a person of interest, in the kidnapping of Taraji Kemp. Last night, Taraji,  who is 2 months old, was taken during a home invasion in unincorporated Broward County.

Just after 11 p.m. on Feb. 26, BSO deputies responded to a home invasion and kidnapping at 2770 N.W. 14 Court in unincorporated Broward County. An unidentified mother was sleeping in the home with her infant daughter and another child when armed intruders entered the home and kidnapped the baby girl. One intruder had a gun.

Augustin, 24, was last seen driving a dark blue 2010 Nissan Altima with the license plate of EHY Q79. The four-door car has tinted windows. Detectives believe she may be anywhere between Central Florida and South Florida.

SVU investigators are interviewing family members and other individuals relevant to the case as well as reviewing evidence in an effort to find the missing infant. The investigation is on-going.

THERE'S NO GIRL SCOUTS BADGE FOR STEALING

If the Girl Scouts had a badge for criminal behavior, this thief would have earned it.
An unknown person slipped a wallet from the purse of an employee at Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, 4701 NW 33 Ave. in Oakland Park, and went shopping. The victim left her office to attend a meeting on Nov. 10, 2015, and when she returned she found her maroon Vera Bradley wallet missing. Soon after, she was able to determine that one of her credit cards was used at a Target in Hollywood. The thief racked up more than $400 in charges.

The suspect is seen in surveillance video captured at Target wearing a white T-shirt, cropped jeans and white sneakers.
