“A Prom to Remember” Offers Teens Battling Cancer Exclusive Prom Experience

Perhaps the quintessential high school experience for most teenagers in America is going to their school’s annual prom. However, for teens battling life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, attending prom is not always possible.

Enter the Unforgettable Prom Foundation, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that brings this coming-of-age occasion to youth ages 12 to 19 at A Prom to Remember. On May 15, 2015 the South Florida chapter will host its annual prom event from 7 to 11 p.m. at The Ritz-Carlton, Fort Lauderdale, located at 1 N. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd.

More than 200 teens are expected to attend this year’s event who receive treatment from area hospitals in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County, including Chris Evert Children’s Hospital, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Miami Children’s Hospital, Baptist Children’s Hospital, Palms West Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center and Alex’s Place at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Everything is provided to make it a night to remember, such as formalwear, salon services and limousine transportation. Upon arrival at A Prom to Remember, teens exit limousines and walk a red carpet escorted by local celebrities.  For the rest of the evening guests enjoy dinner and dancing, entertainment, photo opportunities, and much more.  Everything is arranged by the Unforgettable Prom Foundation and financed by generous sponsorships.

“Prom is a once in a lifetime experience that no teenager should be denied because of cancer,” said Brandon Opre, founder and president of the Unforgettable Prom Foundation. “Prom is not only an opportunity for teens to celebrate the culmination of their high school experiences, but it is also a rite of passage as they transition into adulthood. We are so thankful for all the contributions, volunteers and generous sponsors that make this possible.”

Sponsors of 2015 A Prom to Remember include Macy’s, Walgreens, Men’s Warehouse, Pepsi, Blue Martini, Doctor’s Choice Pharmacy, The Ritz-Carlton, Broward Health, SB Events & Productions, Fringe & Company, Chocolate Fountains of South Florida, Daoud’s Fine Jewelry, The Waise Foundation, Taylor Rose Video Productions, Events by Vento Designs, Boasting Biz, The Kidz Corner at Plantation, Dave & Busters, Broward Health Foundation, Payless Shoes, Cold Stone Creamery, Mister Nonprofit Consultancy, Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida and  Pierson Grant Public Relations.
