Congresswoman Lois Frankel hosted a round table to discuss equal pay for Women

Congresswoman Lois Frankel hosted a round table to discuss equal pay for Women and the Paycheck Fairness Act on Sunday, April 13 at the Mandel Library, 411 Clematis Street, West Palm Beach. Rep. Frankel was joined by several local women’s groups and individuals, including the Women’s Chamber of Palm Beach County and Networking Hispanos, to share their stories and suggestions.
“Equal pay is about fairness and a family’s survival. Equal pay means that everyone, regardless of their gender, gets a fair shot to live their American dream,” Frankel said.

Rep. Frankel has a feature on her website, http://frankel.house/gov/tell-us-your-story, for women to send their stories and experiences as it relates to the gender wage gap. She will take these stories to her colleagues in Washington to advocate for change.

This past week commemorated Equal Pay Week. This marked the week in 2014 where the average woman would have to work in order to earn as much in her 2013 salary as her male counterpart earned in 2013.

In Florida, women take home 83 cents for every dollar a man makes for doing comparable jobs. This disparity is better than the 77 cents to the dollar earned nationally. As a result, women in Florida and throughout the country lose thousands of dollars in salary, income and retirement savings over the course of their lifetime.

If you have a story or know someone who does with regard to Equal Pay, please contact our office.  The Congresswoman would like to hear from you.
